Participants will gain thorough knowledge about the Standards for Training and Certification Convention (STCW) as amended. You will be able to identify required certificates by rank as well as any other implications arising of the STCW Convention and Code. Furthermore general and specific training and familiarisation requirements for seafarers are identified and discussed.

The module reflects the tasks and responsibilities of personnel management in shipping companies and crewing agents who is recommended to have a deep understanding of the training and certification requirements of the seafarers employed in order to choose the best qualified personnel. This is achieved by exploring and discussing details of the requirements of STCW. On the one hand requirements sorted by rank will come into focus. The training contents and the resulting certificates are evaluated in more detail. On the other hand the general questions of familiarisation and training on board form a part in this course. This course includes practical case studies and interactive exercises to enhance the learning outcome of the participants.
