Ballast Water Management

Training course on recent developments for ballast water management regulations, technologies and industry practice.

Objectives

To inform about the current status of regulations and technical solutions regarding the Ballast Water Management Convention.


Entrance regulations

Basic maritime knowledge

Who should attend:
Shipping Companies: Superintendents, nautical officers, engineers; Yard: Design managers, engineers (naval architects), production managers, engineers; Material and Components: Engineers

Duration: 0,5 days


IMO covers BWM in the Ballast Water Management Convention 2004 and associated guidelines. Experience with the implementation so far has raised practical questions, such as sampling and how to document compliance. The US Authorities/Coast Guard have diverged, imposing their own variety of BWM regulations.
Participants will get an update on recent developments for ballast water management regulations, technologies and industry practice. Solutions complying with current and near-term regulations are illustrated for modern cargo vessels.
Participants will also be informed about further regulations to come and acquire fundamental knowledge to make decisions on a case-by-case base for their own fleet.


The course focuses on:

  • Status & trends of most important regulations (e.g. IMO and US Coast Guard)
  • Onboard systems for Ballast Water Management – Technical, economical and practical aspects
  • Practical and Class aspects
  • Ballast water management plan
